Starting your PowerPoint:
1.  Click on the PowerPoint icon and open a new PowerPoint file.  The first slide will automatically appear on your screen.  Name your PowerPoint by typing in a file name.  Go to file-save as- name it - click save.
2.  Text boxes will appear on your first slide.  You may add text in these boxes just as you would do in Word, changing font size, style, color, bols, underline, etc.
3.  You may wish to add "Word Art" - see the directions below.
4.  To delete the text box, click on the frame of the box and clcik delete.

Word Art:
1.  Open your word art tool bar by click on the blue, slanted "A" - the word art icon.
2.  If your word art icon is not showing, cllick on tools- customize- scroll down until you find word art, click the box and then close.
3.  When the word art gallery pop-up menu appears - select an art style-type in the desired text- click ok.
4.  To play with the text color and outline colors, click on the paint can & brush.
5.  To pick up tect and move it, click on the text to get the "crosshairs", this will allow you to relocate text.
6.  To stretch your letters, move your mouse until you get black arrows.  Click, hold and drag to get the shape you want.

Background:
1.  To make a colored or textured background, click format at the top - background - click the little black arrow next to this box, select more collors or select fill effects and play around.
2.  To save the background you like, click apply...DO NOT CLICK ON APPLY TO ALL.

Saving a Photo to your PowerPoint:
1.  Locate the photo you want to save, or find one an put it in your My Pictures file. (See Working with Images.)
2.  Click your mouse in the slide where you want the photo to go.  Then slect insert-photo-from file.
3.  Browse your files, when you locate the picture, double click on it and it will insert into your slide.

Special Effects:
1.  On the upper right side of the toolbar, click on the design icon. 
2.  Look for the arroww pointing down, just to the right (near the X).
3.  A pop-up menu will appear, scroll down to "custom animation".
4.  Click on your slide, on the item you wish to animate.
5.  Oon the custom animation screen, click add effect.
6.  Click entrance, and choose from the effects shown, or go to more effects.
7.  Use the elevator to scroll up & down for choices.  Have your preview effect box open/checked.
8.  Click ok when you have selected the effect you want.
Note: Effects go into action on a mouse click command, unless you tell each effect to go automatically after the previous one.
9. So...click the start arrow and choose, after previous.
10.  Unselect or take off the mouse click command.
Adjust the speed you want.
11.  Repeat the process for each item you wish to automate in your slide show.

Slide Transitions:
1.  Just like special effects, slides will advance on a mouse click or automatically. 
2.  Slide will just advance, or again you can enter a special slide transition effect.
3.  Go to design - click on the little black arrow - find slide transitions.
4.  Remember you must select either automatically and set the timer, or advance on a mouse click command, but not both.
5.  Remember to save after each set of instructions!
