DAY AND NIGHT

SEASONS

 

This is a demonstration lesson.

Materials:  Globe, Filmstrip Projector (or flashlight)

Procedure:

Day and Night

1.  Shine the filmstrip projector onto the globe.

2.  Students observe part of the earth that is lighted (day) and part of the earth that is dark (night)

3.  Turn globe so children can see sunrise in east and sunset in west.

Seasons

1.  Shine the filmstrip projector onto a tilted globe.

2.  Student observe part of globe lighted and notice pole that is light and pole that is dark.  Discuss times that poles are in 24 hour sunlight and 24 hour darkness.

3.  Move globe and filmstrip projector to demonstrate different seasons.

4.  Discuss length of year and reason for leap year.
