Chemistry

South Burlington Learning
Expectations:
By the end of fifth grade, all
students should be able to:
- Differentiate between the physical
and chemical properties of matter
- Explain and define and atom, a
molecule, and element, a compound a mixture, and a solution
- Describe the structure of an atom
(e.g., protons, electrons, neutrons, and nucleus)
- Interpret simple chemical formulas
for given compounds
- Recognize that elements and
compounds can be classified on the basis of their properties ( e.g. acids,
bases, etc...)
- The Atoms Family
http://www.miamisci.org/af/sln/
- "Learn about energy conservation, kinetic, and potential energy;
properties of light, waves, and particles; different forms of electricity
and electrical safety" from the Museum of Science in Miami, Florida.
- Chem4Kids
http://www.chem4kids.com/
- Explore matter, elements, reactions, and atoms here.
- WebElements
http://www.shef.ac.uk/~chem/web-elements/main/index-nofr.html
- Find out the history behind the element as well as key descriptions and
uses.
- The pH Factor
http://www.miamisci.org/ph/
- What is pH? Interactively test lemon juice, milk and more to learn more.
