Orion rules the winter skies from late fall to early spring.  The myths of Orion go back as far as 1200 BC.  One story says that his name was Aqhat a famous hunter and the battle-goddesss Anat fell in love with him.  But when he refused to lend her a bow she sent another man out to steal it.  But the man failed and ended up killing Aqhat and dropping the bow into the sea.  So it is now said that Orion drops the bow below the horizon every year.  Orion was also known as "The Mountain Dweller".  Orion was the demi god son of a mortal women and Poseidon the god who ruled the seas.
