This was a very important speech of Maria Mitchell's. Maria Mitchell was born in 1818 Nantucket Massachusetts. She died in 1889.
She was the first librarian of the Nantucket Athenaeum, but Maria continued studying astronomy. In 1847 she earned international renown and a gold medal from the King of Denmark for discovering a telescopic comet.
