Edwin Powell Hubble is well known for  determining that there are other galaxies in the Universe beyond the Milky Way, and observing that the universe is expanding at a constant rate.

Edwin Hubble was a lawyer, but he got bored with that and decided to go back to studying astronomy like he studied in college.

In 1919 he began to work at Mt. Wilson Observatory in California, where he would work for the rest of his life. He was researching nebulae, fuzzy patches of light in the sky

He was the first astronomer to find out that there was more outside the Milky Way than people thought. The universe was much bigger than people thought. They used to think the universe was just the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds.
