Maria Mitchell was born in 1818 in Nantucket.

Maria was one out of ten children.

From age 18 she worked as a librarian by day, but she took to her telescope by night.

After her most famous discovery, she became the first woman elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

She was a famous astronomer.
