Boys and Girls in the Arctic
![]() |
Boys and girls in the arctic go to schools much like children in other places do although it is common for them to leave school and go home for lunch and then return again in the afternoon. They like to eat pizza, hamburgers, and french fries as well as fish, caribou meat, seal meat, and whale blubber as a special treat. |
| For hobbies, they play a lot of sports indoors like soccer, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. At school they study reading, writing, and math just like children in other places only some of their reading and writing is in English and some is in Inuktitut- the Inuit language. At one school the sixth graders get to go on a special overnight camping trip where they build and sleep in igloos. | ![]() |

Because it is daylight for half of the year, children are used to putting up cardboard and curtains over their windows to help them sleep at night when the sun is still shining in. In these pictures children are learning dances that their grandparents did when they were young. |
